Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

TCM is the oldest form of recorded medicine and dates back over 3000 years. It is an effective form of medicine that has evolved into a complete holistic health care system. Acupuncture promotes healing from the inside naturally by enhancing immunity, and supporting both physical and emotional well being. Acupuncture is proven to be a safe and effective way to treat a wide variety of conditions.

Acupuncture consists of inserting fine, sterile needles at specific acupoints located along the surface of the body. This safe and painless insertion of the needles can balance the qi, or body’s energy, leading to health and harmony. Acupuncture treatments enable the body to heal itself leading to optimal health.

In addition to acupuncture, complementary treatment may be added to further support the healing process. These treatments may include herbal medicine, nutritional counseling, tui-na/massage, cupping, electrical stimulation, and moxabustion.

Treatments

At Flowing Waters Wellness Center you will meet with Marisa Mijares L.Ac. During the initial exam a full health history will be taken. Questions will be asked regarding symptoms, health, lifestyle, and overall goals. Marisa will diagnose through analysis of the tongue and pulse and use a more thorough physical exam when necessary.. After the interview and exam process you will receive an acupuncture treatment. Initial visits last anywhere from 60-90 minutes. Follow- up visits last 45-60 minutes.

Treatments are given with fine, sterile Japanese needles. You may experience a dull ache or tingle where the needle has been inserted. This reaction is good and a sign that the needles are working. After the treatment most people feel a deep sense of relaxation.

In addition to acupuncture, all office visits include herbal and dietary recommendations. Chinese herbs and supplements have been used for centuries and are very effective in the healing process. These supplements have been throughly tested to be safe when used correctly. Marisa can prescribe herbal formulas and diet/ lifestyle changes tailored to your needs.

Treatment plans vary according to each individual. Typically, patients recieve one or two treatments per week until their health goals have been met.
